I hafta say, I kind of want to do Shambhala Training just so I can be a "Warrior of Perky."

O hai synchronicity! (a.k.a. relevant random web-surfing discovery is relevant....)

We made it through the weekend's nor'easter without any flooding or downed trees at our house (dua Netjer, nekhtet). It's carnage down by work, though. There's one house where there are two trees actually on the house, a third tree that's fallen right next to the house, so it's pressed up against the corner, and a fourth tree took out their fence. And a couple of offices in our building got trashed by water coming in (through ceiling leaks, I think); luckily not mine. We had an early closing on Monday, too, because there was a lot of local flooding, and the university let people go to try to mitigate the rush hour.

Today's gorgeous, though. Normally I'd be hosting a HoN fellowship chat at lunchtime, but I need to go to the post office (time to mail the tax prep stuff!), so I'll be out walking instead. Can't say that I'm too sorry. ^_^

The other night I had a dream where I was in New York City for some reason, and I suddenly decided to go to Egypt! So I hopped a plane to Egypt, and after watching the tide come in down by the pyramids (?!), I walked back into Cairo, where I met a very nice Palestinian family and ended up marrying their son. And then I had to call up my dad and explain all this to him. But the pyramids by the ocean at twilight were pretty amazing....

At the moment I'm trying to wrap my head around some personal reorientation. My life is in pretty good balance right now (even with the double load of day job and freelancing), but I'd like to amp up the contemplative element a bit. Some time for prayer and meditation is already built into the state rite, but I'd like to do something else as well. It's just a question of what form it will take, and where I'll manage to fit it in.

Speaking of balancing my life, I'm still going to the gym! I've only been managing two days a week (my goal has been three), but nonetheless I've been going consistently. And I'm actually at a point where it feels good, and I'll find myself wanting to go. There's something very relaxing, at the end of a day of work, about sitting down at the leg press machine and knowing that for the next few minutes I have absolutely nothing else to achieve but to push those weights for X number of reps. It helps, too, that I actually can see progress in the amount of weight I'm lifting and in the levels on the cardio machines. The next step is to pay a bit more attention to what I eat, which I've let slip lately. (And which ultimately is another facet of the mindfulness that I'm trying to cultivate through contemplation. ^_^ ) I'd also like to start hitting a dance-cardio class again; I'd love to get back into Nia, but it probably makes more sense financially to try out the Group Groove class at the gym where I have a membership.

And in further book news, Deed of Paksennarion sequel!!!! *hyperventilates* Although I hope it's better than the two prequels. The one about Gird's rebellion was pretty good, but I've read the other one a couple of times and still can't remember anything about it. :/

I've started writing again. Whee! In the past couple of days I've been making some progress on The Last Nomarch, which I last touched back in November. So that's exciting. As of right now I'm at exactly 12,000 words. (I just typed in the next word to get there, because I was at 11,999 and I was like, noooo, I want the pretty round number. ^_^) And I've managed not to entirely forget where I was going with it, which is pretty good, considering that I don't have any sort of outline. Of course, I don't know all the details of how I'm getting to where I'm going, but I figure this is an experiment in unstructured (or at any rate less structured) writing. It'll be a nice change from bashing away along the same outline for thirteen years.

I did have a brief moment of "waaaaah!" this morning when I saw that Rick Riordan, of Lightning Thief fame, has just started an Egyptian mythology based series, because my story is also about modern-day people interacting with the Egyptian gods, sort of, and I was afraid that they would be too similar. But looking at the Amazon page, it seems quite different, so yay. (Although on the down side it apparently features "Set as baddie," which, fneh.)

I was going to do yard work this weekend, but since it's supposed to rain heavily I'll put that time into the latest freelance assignment, which I also need to work on. Freelance work and writing and finishing up taxes and possibly fixing the kitchen drawer, which has been broken since November too, at least. Heh.
